Dalmatian Rescue Information: Dalmatians are energetic, companionable dogs. Dalmatians need to be with people and may become despondent if left alone. A Dalmatian makes a wonderful pet for families with children but should be supervised with very small kids. Dalmatians are good with other household pets but can be combative with dogs they do not know. Dalmatians have a slight tendency to be high strung or timid if they do not have enough exercise or socialization. Dalmatians are smart but can be stubborn. They respond very well to early, consistent obedience training. Dalmatians need a home with a good sized yard.

Dalmatian Trivia: The high energy level of the Dalmatian can be attributed to the fact that the dogs were bred to accompany horse-drawn carriages. Dalmatians are popular in the media; a good example of their charismatic appeal is the Disney movie, 101 Dalmatians. Ten to twelve percent of Dalmatians are deaf. Dalmatians are traditional firehouse mascots. Dalmatians may have first been perfected in Yugoslavia or Croatia but the breed dates back thousands of years to ancient Egyptian times.
