Dalmatians are popular in the media; a good example of their charismatic appeal is the Disney movie, 101 Dalmatians. Ten to twelve percent of Dalmatians are deaf. Dalmatians are traditional firehouse mascots. Dalmatians may have first been perfected in Yugoslavia or Croatia but the breed dates back thousands of years to ancient Egyptian times.
