Hi there! My name is Sassafras (but my foster family calls me Sassy)! I am approximately 1-2 years old and they think I am a Dalmation pointer mix. My foster mom tells me I am adorable with all of my spots, no matter where they came from. I am a sweet happy girl who loves all the members of my foster family, including the grown-ups, children, and their dog. I even get along well with the cats! Overall, I am a pretty relaxed girl who likes to lounge on the dog bed in the living room at my foster home. My foster mom thinks that life started kind of rough for me as a stray, so I am still learning my manners. I know to come when I am ... (Read More)called, but haven't figured out basic commands such as sit and shake. I am a smart girl, so I think I will be able to learn these quickly. I am almost house trained, and am learning how to let someone know when I need to go outside. I am crate trained and will usually go right in when it is time to go to bed or when my family leaves to go somewhere. I do pull a little when on a leash as I am curious about where we are going, so my foster mom is going to start putting a harness on me to see if that helps. At my foster home, there are a lot of toys with squeakers that I am beginning to understand. I haven't had a lot of toys to play with, so this is a new experience for me. There is one that happens to be my favorite-it is a snake with 4 squeakers! Maybe my new home could have a toy like that for me to play with. I am also a little bit of a talker, and I make a variety of noises depending on what I am trying to say. I enjoy attention; particularly ear rubs and scratches on the black spot right above my tail. My foster mom has even shown me how fun belly rubs can be! Who knew? I am UTD on all of my shots, and am currently on heartworm and flea preventative. I am spayed and microchipped. If you have any questions about me, please email my foster mom, Katie, at kcseguin@gmail.com. (Less)

Dalmatian Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Spot is a 45 lb. wonderful, friendly, loving dog who is leash trained, but could use more time training. He knows the commands 'Sit' and 'Down'. He came to PAWS after being abandoned and living outside under a trailer with two other dogs. He's well house trained. Spot is great with other dogs, but unknown about cats. The foster feels he would be OK because he's also around their farm animals and does fine. He's wonderful around kids as he's been fostered with very young children and plays appropriately. His energy level is a 7 out of 10. He loves to sleep on top of his dog house, and loves to smile big showing all of his teeth. ... (Read More)Spot wants to be inside with his people, but also allowed appropriate outdoor exercise time where he would run off his puppy energy. (Less)

The high energy level of the Dalmatian can be attributed to the fact that the dogs were bred to accompany horse-drawn carriages. Ten to twelve percent of Dalmatians are deaf. Dalmatians are traditional firehouse mascots.
